A great reason to visit Alexandroupolis among many others, is a chance to visit the magnificent museum that is housed in a 1899 neoclassical stone building. Its main purpose is to familiarize the visitor with the folk culture and the customs of the entire Thrace region. The exhibition was organized in such a manner so that one may experience and get a better understanding of the traditional life of Thrace and especially Evros, from the end of the 17th century until the beginning of the 20th century. Among other things, the museum organizes educational programs, creates publications, as well as video and documentary productions. In the museum courtyard there is a cafe and a gift shop.
